E-Commerce with Microsoft Dynamics 365

Overview

A leading entertainment company, faced challenges with their e-commerce platform, catering to a customer base mostly over 50. They needed an intuitive, user-friendly shopping experience for non-tech-savvy users, and their back-end fulfillment was inefficient and manual. Axelliant stepped in, utilizing Microsoft Dynamics 365 Commerce and developing a custom fulfillment solution that streamlined both the user experience and internal operations.

Problem

They had a number of issues with their old e-commerce setup:

  • low and Confusing User Experience:
The e-commerce platform wasn’t user-friendly, especially for older customers who found it difficult to navigate and complete their purchases.
  • Lack of Delivery Options:
Customers only had one or two delivery choices, limiting flexibility and contributing to abandoned shopping carts.
  • Manual Fulfillment Process:
Packaging and shipping were handled manually. With products of varying sizes and weights, this process became inefficient and error-prone.
  • Disconnected Systems:
Their point-of-sale (POS) system and e-commerce platform were not integrated, causing inventory discrepancies between online and physical stores.

Solution

Improving the front-end customer experience and streamlining back-end operations.

  • Seamless E-Commerce Implementation:
By implementing Microsoft Dynamics 365 Commerce, Axelliant provided a smooth and intuitive shopping experience for their older customer base.
Since the client was already using Microsoft Dynamics for their in-store POS system, integrating their online store into the same platform made it much easier to manage inventory and sales data across all channels.
  • Custom Fulfillment Solution:
Recognizing that Dynamics 365 Commerce didn’t offer the level of customization needed for complex fulfillment, Axelliant built a bespoke solution connected to Pitney Bowes.
Now, when a customer places an order, the system automatically calculates the optimal box size, fetches multiple delivery options from different carriers (e.g., UPS, USPS), and prints the necessary shipping labels.
